Plashett’s Rising
Commissioned by Kielder Water & Forest Park in Northumberland as part of its ‘Living Wild at Kielder’ initiative, Plashetts Rising is a gravity-defying rock-like perch designed for Kielder’s growing Osprey community. Reminiscent of a surrealist painting, this rock, ripped from the bottom of the reservoir and quarried from Kielder’s past, reflects literally and metaphorical the surrounding landscape and history of Kielder’s lost and submerged village; Plashett’s. As the waters rise the rocks body slowly disappears leaving only a small-sculpted plateau that continually changes with the tides that is both alien and familiar to these spectacular surroundings.
